The Los Angeles Angels placed starting pitcher Jered Weaver on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday due to left hip inflammation.
Weaver took the loss during Saturday’s game against the Oakland A’s, but he did not appear to show any physical limitations. He will reportedly undergo an MRI and other tests on Monday to help determine the cause of the issue, and a clearer return date could be made at that point.
With the Angels off Thursday, they can get through one more turn of a four-man rotation before a decision on a fifth starter will have to be made.
Weaver, 32, has struggled considerably this season, as he is 4-8 with a 4.75 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 96.2 innings across 15 starts, the worst ERA of his career and first time he has been over 4.00 since the 2008 season when he had a 4.33 mark over 30 starts.
