The Florida State Seminoles have been voted to the No. 1 spot in the Amway Coaches Top 25 preseason football poll, which was released on Thursday.
After winning the 2014 BCS Championship, Florida State takes the top spot ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks and Auburn Tigers.
“We’re very excited about being No. 1 and happy to be No. 1, but we understand that we have to play like No. 1 and play great football,” Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher told USA Today. “That’s going to be our objective. We’re proud to start there and now we just have to go play great football.”
Led by 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, Florida State will open their season August 30 against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Southeastern Conference has the most teams in the top-25 with seven, followed by the Pac-12 with six.
This season is the first with the College Football Playoff, a four-team finish to the season that will crown a champion on Jan. 12, 2015.
