New York Islanders right wing Kyle Okposo is expected to miss six to eight weeks because of an upper-body injury, according to the team’s official web site.

There is no word as to when Okposo sustained the injury or the exact nature of the issue, but he missed practice Monday coming out of the All-Star break, and will have to endure an extended absence.

The loss of Okposo will be a significant hit for the Islanders’ offense, as the 26-year-old had been on a hot streak recently, including tallying his first-career four-goal game and hat trick Jan. 15 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. For the season, he has 14 goals and 30 assists in 46 games played.

The Islanders will need to find a way to keep afloat in the Metropolitan division without Okposo, as his play has contributed to the team occupying the top spot this season with a 46-31-14 record, three points ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
