New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings will not play in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering a sprained MCL in his right knee last Sunday.

With Jennings out for the first time this season, rookie running back Andre Williams is in line to get the first start of his career. The fourth-round draft pick out of Boston College played well during the preseason, but he is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry on 54 attempts during the regular season. He has had some success over the last two weeks, rushing for a combined 131 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries against the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons.

Jennings, meanwhile, may miss time beyond Sunday’s game, as the Giants face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7, before heading into a Week 8 bye.

The team has yet to rule Jennings out beyond this week, but it is possible that he will not be back until a Week 9 Monday Night Football matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.
