The St. Louis Blues announced the signing of center Paul Stastny to a four-year contract on Tuesday. The deal is worth $28 million, according to the NHL Network.
Stastny is coming off an impressive regular season with the Colorado Avalanche in 2013-14, as he recorded 60 points (25 goals, 35 assists) in 71 games, but the 26-year-old may have earned his money during the first round of the playoffs against the Minnesota Wild, as he exploded for five goals and five assists over the seven-game series.
Coming off such a successful season, Stastny was considered the top centers on the free-agent market, and while he did not come cheap, he should provide the Blues with a scoring boost down the middle.
They’ll hope to see his postseason production translate, too, as St. Louis suffered defeat at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs last season.
